Assumption of Chairmanship of
Asian Group by Sri
Lanka

Following a
meeting of the
Asian Group
Plenary held on Wednesday, 7th July 2010, and its
endorsement, H.E.
Musthafa M. Jaffeer, Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka assumed the Chairmanship of
the Asian
Group in Vienna from the outgoing
Chair-
the Republic
of Korea.
During the
Chairmanship of
the Group, Sri Lanka
will
coordinate the work of the Group in matters related to the UN
Industrial
Development Organization (UNIDO) and the UN Office of Drugs and Crime
(UNODC),
as well as other UN meetings in Vienna.
Sri Lanka
last chaired the Asian Group in the latter half of 2006.
Ambassadors and
representatives from Afghanistan,
China, India, Indonesia,
Iran, Japan, Lebanon,
Pakistan, Republic of Korea,
Thailand
and others attended the meeting. Before handing over the
chairmanship to Sri Lanka,
the outgoing Chair of the Asian
Group, H.E. Yoon-joe SHIM, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea
gave an overview of the work of the Group over the period of his
Chairmanship
and expressed his gratitude for the support from the members of the
Group.
