Visas for
Stranded Foreigners
The Foreign Ministry
coordinated with the Immigration and
Emigration Department of Sri Lanka to extend the visas for foreigners
stranded
in the country due to the cancellation of flights to Europe. The visa
extensions is granted free of charge at the Katunayake Airport itself
to allow
foreigners mostly from Britain, France and Germany to remain in Sri
Lanka till
the air travel situation improves.
In the meantime, Sri Lankan
Airlines has re-commenced
flights to Europe, mainly to London, Paris, Rome and Milan following the lifting of
restrictions for the air travel.
It is planning several additional flights for the convenience of
passengers
whose travel was disrupted.
