Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka (BPU), established under the Act of Parliament No. 74 of 1981 of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, is the well reputed Buddhist University in the world. The objectives of the university are to propagate Buddhism and the development of Pali and Buddhist Studies in Sri Lanka and foreign countries and the provision of facilities for research in the relevant fields. For that purpose, more than 08 affiliated institutes are established around the world.
BPU welcomes students from all around the world and offers world-recognized degrees with Buddhism as a subject. Many international students have already completed their courses and degrees at the Faculty of Buddhist Studies and at the Faculty of Language Studies. All subjects are also available for external students at the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies and Center for Distance Learning.
