Supply of Firefighting Vehicles/Equipment for the Colombo Municipal Council under the Austrian Soft Loan Scheme
Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, Secretary of Finance and Mass Media was on an official visit to Vienna, Austria from 11-12 February 2019 to sign the loan agreement of the project of supplying Firefighting Vehicles/Equipment for the Colombo Municipal Council under the Austrian Soft Loan Scheme. Dr. Samatunga was accompanied by Mr. R.M.P Rathnayake, Director General (External Resource Department, Ministry of Finance) and Mr. K.T.I. Premaratne/Director (External Resource Department, Ministry of Finance). Mrs. Irosha Cooray, the Chargé d' Affaires a.i. of the Mission was also attended with the Sri Lanka delegation for the signing ceremony and bilateral meeting.
The Sri Lankan delegation attended for the signing ceremony of the above agreement on 11 February 2019 at the Head Quarters of UniCredit Bank. From the UniCredit Bank the signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Dieter Hengl, Member of the Board, the Managing Director and other official of the UniCredit Bank.
Since many skyscraper buildings with multiple floors are being constructed in the Colombo City and its suburb, enhancement of the firefighting capacity of the CMC ensuring the safety of the properties and the inhabitants is vital.
The Ministry of Internal & Home Affairs and Provincial Councils & Local Government has concluded a contract agreement with the Austrian M/S Rosenbauer International AG with a total estimated cost of Euro 10,317,000 for Supplying of Firefighting Vehicles/Equipment for the Colombo Municipal Councils. The Government of Austria has agreed to provide an interest free soft loan to finance the above project through UniCredit Bank Austria AG. Special Authorization of H E the President has been granted for the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Mass Media to sign the loan agreement on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka. The Commercial Contract of the above project has been signed between Ministry of Internal & Home Affairs and Provincial Councils & Local Government and the M/S Rosenbauer International AG following the Cabinet decision dated 20th February, 2018.
The Sri Lanka delegation also met the officials of the Ministry of Finance on 11 February 2019 and sought avenues for further enhancement of development cooperation between the GOSL and Austria.
