"Buddhist sermon" in commoration of the 2600 "Sambuddhattva Jayanthi" Anniversary
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in association with the Sri Lankan community organised a "Buddhist sermon" on 15 July 2010 at the Embassy premises. This event was the first religious ceremony of series of Buddhist activities to be organised by the Embassy leading up to the Vesak Festival 2011, to commemorate the 2600th "Sambuddhattva Jayanthi" Anniversary.
The Embassy staff and a large number of Sri Lankans participated in the occasion.
Delivering a special sermon Venerable Mawarale Baddhiya Thero emphasised the importance of practising good deeds and enlighten the devotees on Buddhist way of
life and teachings.
Vienna Lions Cup - 2010 on 17th July 2010
Vienna Lions Club of Sri Lankans organize a
six-a-side cricket tournament for Vienna Lions Cup 2010.
The tournament which was to be held on 3rd June
2010, postponed due to bad weather, has been rescheduled for 17. July
2010 at Stadium Seebarn.
The organizers invite all cricket lovers to join
with them for the occasion that provides exciting games coupled with

SLAFA Donates Spectacles for "Ranaviru" Heroes
The Sri Lanka-Austria Friendship Association (SLAFA) which organized few fund raising events in association with the Embassy of Sri Lanka Vienna donated 2000 EUR to provide spectacles for family members of "Ranaviru" heroes.
The fund raised for this purpose was channelled through Army Seva Vanitha Unit and distribution were made under the auspices of First Lady Madame Shiranthi Rajapaksa.
First Lady Madame Rajapaksa handed over spectacles for selected members of tri-forces in a ceremony held in Colombo during May 2010.
Vesak Fesitval 2010
Participation at the International Charity Bazaar in Vienna, Austria.
The Women's Guild of United Nations Office in Vienna organized its annual International Charity Bazaar on 27-28 November 2009, on the invitation, Sri Lanka Mission in Vienna also participated at the event with country products for promotion.
The Embassy setup a National Stall in the Bazaar with selected Sri Lankan products having potential for market penetration in Austria.
The Sri Lankan Restaurant at the Bazaar also promoted Sri Lankan style unique cuisine, which attracted large number of visitors during the event.

Vesak Fesitval 2010
In
Association with the Embassy in Vienna, Sri Lankan expatriates under
the guidance of venerable Dr. Wijayarajapura Seelawansa Thero organized
this year's Vesak Fesitval on Sunday 30th May at Dahmma Zentrum,
Vienna. Series of religious activities were held during the course of
the day in line with the beginning of 2600th "Sambuddathawa Jayanthi"
Anniversary.
A special "heel dhana" was arranged for devotees who observed "sil". Day's sermons meditation and other religious observances were led by venerable Dr. Wijayarajapura Seelawansa Thero, Chief Incumbent of Dhamma Zentrum.
A "Dansala" was arranged during the lunch for all Sri Lankan expatriates and their Austrian colleagues who participated at the event.
"Bakthi gee" programme conducted in the afternoon was significant among other activities.

joyously celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with a renewed hope
and confidence
for the country at an event organized by the Sri Lanka-Austria
Friendship
Association (SLAFA) in collaboration with Sri Lanka Embassy in Austria
on
Sunday, 25th
April 2010 at
Jugendsports Ground.
The
New Year celebrations began with, Buddhist and Hindu religious
observances
conducted by Venerable Dr. Wijayarajapura Seelawansa Thero of Dhamma
Centrum and
Dr. Bimal Kundu of Hindu Mandhir, respectively.
Following the hoisting of National Flag, speaking on the occasion,Mr. M. M. Jaffeer ,
Ambassador of Sri Lanka noted the significance of this year’s New
Year celebrations
being observed in an unified country with a peaceful atmosphere after
the
eradication of terrorism under the leadership of the President, H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa .
Citing the intertwined nature of Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations, Ambassador further observed that the event brings the spirit of joy, peace, sharing and contentment among communities and serves as a source of unity and pride of our nation. He called on Sri Lankan expatriates to continue their endeavors in supporting the country and uniting communities for the betterment of our people.
Blessed with the first sunny spring day, a large number of Sri Lankan expatriates with their Austrian colleagues gathered at this occasion, had the opportunity to enjoy traditional New Year dishes with a wide range of Sri Lankan culinary delights.
The festival atmosphere was colourful and lively with various traditional New Year games, music and dances.Messrs Ananda Jayasinghe and Lal Rosa
with their bands played Sri Lankan music. Mr. Sri Nimal Padmakumara , a well
known presenter compered the event.

"Uthuru Mithuru" Yal Devi Friendship Rail Track Reconstruction Project
The Ministry of Transport through Sri Lanka Missions abroad has sought the assistance of Sri Lankan expatriate community to receive contribution to "Uthuru Mithuru" project.
In this regard, the Railway Department has issued tickets (one way Colombo-Jaffna) at the price of SL Rs 1000 (equivalent of 6 EUR) to be sold among Sri Lankan exaptriates. If you wish to make contributions towards this project by purchasing tickes, you are kindly requested to contact this mission.
